BC Student Council Recognized for 21st Straight Year

Bourgade Catholic High School's Student Council was once again recognized by the Arizona Association of Student Councils as an Outstanding Council of Distinction at the 2008 state convention in February. Our Student Council hosted dances, sponsored a Prom Dress collection, Toy Drive for foster Children, hosted Elementary Leadership Day, collected cell phones for soldiers and countless other leadership and service to our school and community. All of their efforts were reflected in a beautiful scrapbook, compiled by Anna Price ('08). The scrapbook can be viewed in the school office. Congratulations to President Phillip Heinley ('08) and the members of Student Council! We are proud of you!

Kimberly Roland was appointed 2007-2008 Chairperson of the Governor’s Youth Commission for the State of Arizona.  Kimberly runs quarterly meetings at various locations throughout Arizona and is active on several subcommittees such as underage drinking and Media. Last spring she traveled to New Mexico where she presented a session at the National Service Learning Conference. This spring she will travel to a conference in Minnesota as Governor Napolitano’s representative of the Governor's Youth Commission.

The above photo was taken at the State Capitol for the Governor’s Foundation Roundtable on September 10.

Class of 2011 Freshman Experience!

Calvin Terrell is a well known motivational speaker in the valley. He has worked with many schools and businesses on such topics as diversity, leadership, breaking down ethnic barriers, and personal motivation for change.

He addressed our freshman class at the start of the school year to help break down any pre-conceptions about groups, cultural differences and to help our freshman get off to a unified start as a group. Mr. Terrell's talk was extremely moving for the students and was an excellent way to kick off their Freshman Experience.

Roots and Shoots Cleans Up An Arizona Highway

On Saturday, September 29, 2007 Roots and Shoots members, plus one parent, participated in Adopt-A-Highway. Those members were: Emily Guynn, Barry Huey, Lexi Hernandez, Tevis Spiva, Brittany Tafolla, Nestor Figueroa, Stacey Zermeno, Will Curan, Maria Marquez, Brett Crable, Richard Villa, Maria Romero, Karisia Santana, Bianca Turner, Marissa Lagazo, Joey Cada, and Karissa Lagazo. Ms. Tevis, Tevis Spiva’s mom, also took part. Mr. and Mrs. Gish led the group. All members worked hard cleaning up our (Roots and Shoots) mile of Carefree Highway between markers 10 and 11. We enjoyed laughs, good conversion, and meaningful physical exercise. Next you think about not throwing away trash in the proper receptacle, think twice: There are others who give up a Saturday morning to clean up your mess! Keep our environment clean. Mrs. Gish would like to thank all the parents, too, who drove their daughters/son to and from Bourgade Catholic on a non-school day.
