Bourgade Catholic, United Blood Services Team Up to Make History

On July 28, a new law went into effect that allows 16-year-olds to donate blood for the first time.  A number of  Bourgade Catholic students took advantage of this opportunity to help make history.  United Blood Services teamed up with Bourgade Catholic to allow some of our own students to become Arizona’s first 16-year-old donors and our community’s youngest heroes.  These history-making Golden Eagles included Brian MacCleary, Zachary O'Meara, Fernando Perez, and Michael Weikamp.  Brian, who just turned 16 on July 26th, became the youngest individual to ever donate blood in the state of Arizona.

A special thanks goes out to Sr. Christi and Mary Ann Burns for helping organize the event. Sr. Christi dedicates an enormous amount of time to all the school's blood drive efforts, and is the main reason Bourgade Catholic has been recognized as such a key component in this great cause.  Without Sr. Christi, Bourgade Catholic would not be on the top of the list when it comes to blood donations in Arizona.  In  In addition, we thank our mascot Ashley Fagnani, also 16, who helped out by encouraging other 16 year olds to give blood.
