Standardized Testing                                   School Code: 030-264

Bourgade Catholic High School students are given the following standardized tests during the school year:

STS – Scholastic Testing Service for Educational DevelopmentThis test, administered to all freshmen, provides direction for educational planning and will indicate grade level for various academic skills.  This test is administered in October.

PSAT/NMSQT - Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. This test is taken in October of junior year as a qualifying test for national recognition and preparation for the SAT which is taken in the spring of junior year.

ACT AND SAT I - American College Testing Program and the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Because most colleges require scores on the ACT and SAT I, all students are encouraged to start taking both tests in the spring of their junior year.   Registration is done on line or paper forms are in the Career Center.  SAT I consists of Critical Reading, Math, and Writing.  ACT consists of English, Math, Science and Reading.  There is an optional writing portion to the ACT test.

On line registration for the SAT is www.collegeboard.com

On line registration for the ACT is www.act.org

Students can access practice test materials at both web sites.

SAT Essay prompts – are given throughout the junior and senior year as a practice for the SAT essay portion of the test.  Bourgade Catholic High School has been a test pilot school for the SAT essay for the past three years.

SAT II Subject Tests – Hour long exams are administered in different subject areas. Offered at different times during the year, these are necessary at some colleges for admissions and placement.

AP – Advanced Placement Tests. These tests are for students who have taken Advanced Placement level courses in high school. AP’s are given in May in specific subject areas. Depending on particular college’s AP policy, a student may gain advanced standing in college.

AIMS testing – Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards.  This test is given to juniors and seniors only FOR TUITION WAIVER PURPOSES ONLY!  Tuition waivers can only be used at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University or the University of Arizona.  Juniors and seniors must have a 3.5 unweighted grade point average AND earned all B’s and A’s in their 16 core classes (English, Math, Science, Fine Arts and Social Studies).  Students must EXCEED on all three AIMS tests to be eligible for the tuition waiver.  Testing dates are determined by the State of Arizona.
